Item in the news Friday says Yahoo fought the NSA on supplying information back in 2008 saying their account holders had a constitutional right against unreasonable searches and seizures. Yahoo lost in court and capitulated.
2008 was back in the Bush administration. I'm not necessarily blaming Bush or Obama here. What I am saying is it's next to impossible once a power is granted to the executive branch that any subsequent president would willingly relinquish that power. That means Republican or Democrat and presidents coming after Obama.

How do we trust the government who we've now caught abusing its powers to quell, suppress and remove dissent? Where is our Rule of Law? How is this not the first stage of tyranny? Tyranny is not new...it's an old story that loves to repeat itself. But it's new to us! And guess what...we're sending it back! ;-)

Nice job with the dogs, Congratulations. And you remember it so it means something to you, whether you think you're a hero or not coming out of it.
I agree with you on Snowden. I worry he'll be prosecuted when nothing he did will endanger anybody, like say Cheney did when he outed Valerie Plame.
Snowden was just passing along information that better helps us understand the evils the Patriot Act unleashed as many knew it would. But I sort of agree with Bolton. This is nothing new, just in greater detail than before.

The separation of powers has always been blurred, going back to Andrew Jackson's decision to defy the Supreme Court and enact his own policy of killing all Indians. Roosevelt tried to stack the Supreme Court, Truman tried to federalize the steel mills. He also moved to integrate the military on his own. Eisenhower tried to desegregate public schools against the wishes of just about everybody with any power.
That's also nothing new.

I have been breathing deeply & thinking even deeper. You don't stand with the ACLU here because you ARE predisposed to giving your government the benefit of the doubt...as I once WAS. I would have trusted Reagan, Bush & even Clinton to have our best interests. I, and most of us paying attention to the modus operandi of this administration certainly do not trust them in the least bit! I hope you had a nice visit with your son!

Funny, I also spent the past week at some family reunions. I was particularly struck by Times Square, which I hadn't seen in many years. It's gone the other way, and is once again a civic center -- no longer the nest of peep shows and decrepit buildings I remember from the late 80's, when it appeared immune to the rest of the city's prosperity.
