The Sunday Morning Tune-up, April 15th 2012 Edition!

New Earth (Please listen after reading)

“The most important people in my life were my mother and father. They have both passed and they both died of horrific illnesses that made me question my Catholic faith. Why would a God make these wonderful human beings suffer so much. My mother and father didn’t deserve to die the way they did.  They were the epitome of Christ. As a matter of fact I pray to them more than I do God. They were Saints in my eyes and I believe in their spirit more than I do God…AMEN”

“I have problems with the ‘Eucharist’. I believe that the bread and the cup are symbols of Jesus’ life given for us. Nothing we eat can ever save us or even be part of our salvation. Believing in Jesus (Him crucified, buried, and risen again) is all that is required of us for salvation.”

“Being a protestant I naturally disagree with the idea of Catholicism being the repository of Truth, but I respect your opinions greatly. The Reformation gave birth to the Magna Carta and the United States Constitution.  Here the individual is directly responsible to God with no need of a priest-craft.  It has worked out marvelously, not only for us, but has broken the power of political religions in every nation our armies have ventured and has replaced priests/rulers/tyrants of all stripes with constitutional governments.  I hesitate to surrender that self-determination and return our fate to a vicar.”

The three separate statements above were actual posts by three separate people in response to my last Easter Sunday Morning Tune-up, which focused on the role of the Catholic Church in the Resurrection of Truth.

Good morning Dear Friend, and welcome to this edition of the Sunday morning Tune-up!

                                                          Unexpectedly

Whether it comes from the President’s lips, from the lips of Ben Bernanke or some “Chief Economist”…and whether they are discussing the price of oil, the latest job numbers, a deep frost in the Arab Spring, or some lost adolescent blasting holes through the heads of his classmates…the word you are going to hear more and more from the Left is the word unexpectedly. Get used to it!

Think about this tantalizing little nugget of reality. At the heart of any number of political campaigns around our great country, from local to national, is this one deadly fact. Truth is poison! I promise you that in the minds of the vast majority of campaign managers, girding their candidate in the armor of Truth would make them Kamikaze Candidates! We don’t sell Truth…we sell people what they wish to buy. And what they want to buy is what they wish to hear. And these days, the most successful politician, priest, rabbi and candle stick maker is the one who sings the lie sweet enough so as not to offend an honest ear!

On October 31st 1517, Martin Luther ignited the spark of the Reformation and split from the Catholic Church by nailing his Ninety-Five Theses to the door of the All Saints Church in Wittenberg.  What Luther nailed to that one door opened other doors that led to other doors and so on. One can very easily ride the wings of imagination and the great what ifs here…but whose to say? I know this; we’ve come a long way from the sanctity and purity of the Eucharist as given to us directly from Christ himself at The Last Supper!

In yesterday’s The Destiny of Demoralization, I wrote that once a broken society acknowledges the break, all that remains is a little good old-fashioned detective work to determine the cause and source of the break. (I feel the need to remind that I only move the pen here!) Martin Luther effectively issued the driver’s license to the freight-haulers of the Unexpected that has suddenly (& unexpectedly) arrived at all of our doorsteps…marked payment due! (And they no longer accept credit cards!)

Please tune in this coming Tuesday…we are rolling back a stone you will not want to miss! And you might wish to visit with Ann this morning as well http://barnhardt.biz/ After all, who couldn’t use a little Divine Mercy? 🙂

Therefore take unto you the armour of God, that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and to stand in all things perfect. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of justice, and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace: In all things taking the shield of faith, wherewith you may be able to extinguish all the fiery darts of the most wicked one. And take unto you the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit (which is the word of God).
Ephesians 6:13-17
