Good Sunday Morning Dear Friend. I went to see the movie Son of God yesterday and I was struck by two things: The number of empty seats and the Godlessness and perverse garbage in every preview of coming “attractions” that preceded the movie. The very last scene in the movie literally took us into the eye of God and I wondered, who will stop the rain…
After the movie I stopped at the supermarket and bumped into an old friend I’ve known for nearly twenty years. We reminisced about the old days and the troubling times we are living in which led to his concluding remarks that our children’s children will be told what to eat, drink and think.
Free Love Now!
When Jesus met Peter for the first time, Peter was in the routine of what was a pretty routine life for a fisherman living on the Galilee under Roman Rule. He led Peter and what became a growing group of followers out of routine and into eventual conflict with authority.
Thinking about Dan’s lament of our children’s future, I felt sadness for the true spontaneity of life that they would never know…the spontaneity of true freedom he and I grew up with and took 100% for granted. Free to think, speak and act for ourselves. Free to love or hate from within ourselves guided by our own moral authority without the slightest concern or trace of an overriding state authority. Now there are “hate crimes”.
But we don’t have to wait for our children’s future because we are already there. We can’t even step outside of our own lament because we are already imprisoned. Our schools have become processing plants. Our places of business have become sterile uniform boxes where we pass each other on our way to a paycheck. Our churches have become empty theaters of the same old lines skipping over the Truth of our imprisonment for fear of losing tax exempt status. We have surrendered our souls to Cesar! I have this nearly uncontrollable urge to stand up in the middle of the so-called mass and ask my priest what he has done with my Lord!
“Despite the human race’s extraordinary capacity for invention and progress, we clearly have a millennia-old blind spot in one all-important area. We don’t understand evil- what it is, how it works, and why it so routinely and effortlessly ruins our lives. Put another way, we don’t understand ourselves.” ~ David Kupelian
Our medicine cabinets are full because our hearts are empty! Our children are turning away because they can no longer turn to us! WHY? Could it possibly have anything to do with their being smart enough to sense our self-paralysis under the growing shadow?
Our world is descending rudderless into chaos and turmoil while our smart-phones sell us vacation packages. We’ll pass each other in the halls tomorrow slightly more deadened and numb than the week before, not even helplessly hoping anymore. The eyes know, so we’re quicker to find distraction and looking away. We are the walking dead!
We don’t need a revolution with guns! We need a Revolution with Heart!
