The Sunday Morning Tune-up ~ March 16th, 2014

Bishop Egan

Bishop Egan

“When people are not in communion with the Catholic Church on such a central thing as the value of life of the unborn child and also in terms of the teachings of the church on marriage and family life – they are voting in favor of same-sex marriage – then they shouldn’t be receiving Holy Communion,”~ Bishop Philip Egan

I do this radio show now and then we call “The Arena of Ideas” on a local station. During last week’s show I brought up Cardinal Timothy Dolan’s Meet the Press interview with David Gregory, as part of an overall discussion about how appeasement has run amok in Church as well as State. I observed that in addition to the revision of early American history in our schools, there has been a devastating “watering down” of the teachings (liturgy) in our churches as well. A caller who did not care for my position called in and demanded that I give her just one example of the “watering down” of Church liturgy. What is so amazing is that she called the show following our discussion of Cardinal Dolan’s “Good for him…God bless him…Bravo!” affirmation of Gregory’s glorification of Michael Sam’s un-repentant homosexuality as a virtuous act of courage! This would be like a caller calling in to accuse meteorologist Sam Champion of a faulty snow storm prediction AFTER the 2 feet of snow have already fallen!

                                   Church Lite ~ Less Truth, More Nice!

There is something so eerily creepy going on within the optics of Church and State it makes my skin crawl. They are literally mirroring each other in ways far more chilling than transformative. Both leaders seek to shepherd their flocks within the confines of politically correct pastures! Both leaders enjoy the cloak of infallibility and a departure from tradition. Both leaders pay homage to the collective at the expense of the individual. And both share a remarkable similarity in the cadence of their step to the beat of the New World Order!

We Americans have a proud history of lampooning our presidents…until now that is. I myself happen to respect the office! I do…I respect the carpets and drapes. I love the desk. Why, I even love and respect the empty chair, as Mr. Eastwood observed so eloquently…and courageously I might add. But Obama the man is Xerxes himself! As a Catholic, I will pray for his soul such that it is…but I will never bow to him for that would be the ultimate betrayal of my conscience. Cardinal Dolan apparently suffers no such restrictions!

Michael Voris makes an excellent point in calling attention to the wisdom of tone on these matters. People of faith are bound to conscience in ways the secular world is not. In the game of earthly chess, this puts us at a tremendous disadvantage. We understand however, that the chessboard is a distraction from the real game and this is where true charity comes into play. This is where the courageous truth and wisdom of Bishop Philip Egan enters the room…in much the same way as the light of Dr. Ben Carson stood in sharp contrast to the “empty chair” during the now famous White House Prayer Breakfast!

True love and charity do not tread lightly in hoofed silence waiting to be sheared and slaughtered, they stand fearless and calm wherever Truth is under assault to hold the assailant(s) accountable! When considering a beer, lite is nice. When considering a church, lite is the watered down shadow of Truth…and tragically misleading!

Saint Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host –
by the Divine Power of God –
cast into hell, satan and all the evil spirits,
who roam throughout the world seeking the ruin of souls.
Amen.
