The Merry Yucksters!

The Merry Yucksters!

Good Morning Dear Friend. I’m really struggling with where to begin today and here’s why. In the very same world we are rejoicing a record-high stock market; we are watching our cities die. And as every American who’s been alive for at least the past sixty years knows…Detroit wasn’t just any old city. As I started to write this piece last night, I thought about my Rangers fan-friends who weren’t thinking about anything else on this earth as they awaited the puck-drop…70 years after Eisenhower signaled the “game on” puck-drop of all time…to the day!

It really amazes me how we are living in polar opposite worlds…simultaneously. Jimmy Fallon yuckin’ it up with Tom Cruise on the top of the world…while thousands of the men who gave them their freedom are dying waiting for doctors in the Hell below! Oddly enough, sometimes…in fact most of the time, I worry more for the people on top. You see, I can find the virtue in making the most of a bad situation, and looking at the glass half full, as long as we’re doing something to fill the glass and improve the situation. But turning the blind eye to evil to enjoy its earthly trappings, while virtue is crucified…is Hell’s Foyer! And that is where most celebrity finds itself, I’m afraid.

You see its one thing to make a conscious decision to live knowing that you’re dying. 60 Minutes did a remarkable story about beautiful people with Lou Gehrig’s disease doing just that some months ago. But it’s quite another to distract a patient from the deadly disease he might otherwise have defeated! That, in my book, is as evil as evil gets! And further, I believe I’ve just given you the Mission Statement of the most heinous and lethal cocktail mix any society has ever ingested; Pop Culture and Public Education!

Here on the Inside

The 60 Minutes special on people with Lou Gehrig’s disease and Maya Angelou’s “Quietude” quote, share something in common that is quite remarkable. They both draw our attention inside, where we are able to connect with our own true power…and actually hear the voice of God. The journalist who interviewed these amazing souls on 60 Minutes, actually found himself in envy of people who were dying!

This is the very last place those who program us want us to find ourselves. They prefer our envy of the living so much; they show us how to live so we will envy it more! That is the quintessential ambrosia ingredient cooked into every single component of our Social Media today, leading us like mice to the cheese…and away from the light. If you doubt that, I challenge you to think of a junkie…and then really observe yourself the next time you lose power or connection on your Smart Phone!

  • Life outside becomes a quick-fix blip. Inside we find eternal bliss!
  • Inside is appreciating the moment. Outside is chasing moments that never come.
  • Outside seeks validation. Inside validates itself.
  • Inside is freedom from the attachment that outside is unable to let go of.

Inside does the right thing. Outside does what it needs to do for more of the wrong thing! In fact, outside has come to realize that it needs to destroy inside in order to survive…

“Inside” ~ Ian Anderson, Jethro Tull

All the places I’ve been, make it hard to begin                                                               To enjoy life again on the inside, but I mean to                                                     Take a walk around the block and be glad that I’ve got                                        me some time To be in from the outside and inside with you

I’m sitting in the corner feeling glad
Got no money coming in but I can’t be sad
That was the best cup of coffee I ever had
And I won’t worry about a thing because we’ve got it made
Here on the inside, outside so far away

And we’ll laugh and we’ll sing, get someone to bring our friends
Here for tea in the evening, old Jeffrey makes three
Take a walk in the park, does the wind in the dark
Sound like music to you, well I’m thinking it does to me

Can you cook, can you sew
Well, I don’t want to know
That is not what you need on the inside
To make the time go

Counting lambs, counting sheep
We will fall into sleep
And we awake to a new day of living
And loving you so
