If I were to die tomorrow, I would thank God with my last breath for many things. Most of all I would thank him for the foundation of a childhood lived on consecrated soil. It truly breaks my heart to know the generations deprived of this by our own hand. When we move from a good house to an evil house, the heart will always long for the good. But when we’re born in the evil house, the heart makes its home here. Good Sunday Morning Dear Friend!
The “Greater Evil”
When I read the Pope’s recent speech which included the quote above, I thought about the significance of his targeting corruption in such a powerful way for two reasons. One; I remembered Dietrich Von Hildebrand’s distinction between the sin of weakness versus the sin of wickedness as the difference between the adolescent who sneaks into the XXX show versus the dictator who seeks to drown the spirit of men. Two; that he speaks from the wheelhouse of the Church in the time of her greatest flood, knowing the rot in her hull and seeing the rot of the State before the flood!
George Washington, a regular contributor to Zero Hedge was also inspired by the Pope’s recent speech. He started his The Pope: “Corruption is a Greater Evil than Sin” piece with this…
Preface: If you are an atheist (or adherent of another faith) and believe that the Catholic faith is crazy, you are obviously entitled to your belief. But please remember that very few Americans are atheists … and the majority don’t trust atheists. More importantly, it’s wise to work with allies on core issues, such as fighting corruption … even if you would normally disagree with them.
I’ve come to see atheism and corruption the same as I see Islam and terror. Not all Muslims are terrorists, but most all the terrorists are Muslim. Not all atheists are corrupt, but most all the crooks, whether they are conspiring against the Hull of St. Peter or the Ship of State, are in fact atheists in their soul and wicked in their hearts.
There is an ocean of difference between the congresswoman who sees her Catholicism as a wardrobe change when its time for votes and the Catholic who believes that to lie is to commit a mortal sin! The former is worse than an atheist, is she not? Sadly, I wonder, how many Bishops and Archbishops (of NY) are conspiring alongside her?
Having stood on consecrated soil and having breathed consecrated air provides a sweetness that every cell remembers and a conviction that endures the greatest floods…one sandbag at a time!
Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abides forever. As the mountains are around Jerusalem, so the Lord is around his people, from this time forth and forever-more. For the scepter of wickedness shall not rest upon the land allotted to the righteous, lest the righteous put forth their hands to do wrong. Do good, O Lord, to those who are good, and to those who are upright in their hearts! But those who turn aside upon their crooked ways the Lord will lead away with evil-doers! Peace be in Israel! ~ Psalms 125
