The Sunday Morning Tune-up ~ May 3, 2015

A “Protector” in Waiting?

For those of you who looked for the report on our meeting with Senator Schumer’s office in last week’s Tune-up I had promised, I apologize. As I had detailed in the April 19th Tune-up, twelve concerned citizens from Senator Schumer’s own district called for the meeting to convey our sense of moral outrage over the rising tide of world-wide targeting, persecution, kidnapping and murder of Christians, the exploding anti-Semitism in Europe, and the deterioration of our support of Israel…threatening the survival of our greatest ally in the Middle East, if not the entire world!

We specifically wanted to know, as Christians, how the man who will soon be the most powerful Democrat in the United States Senate would be wielding his power to stop these domestic and foreign atrocities so egregiously and abhorrently repulsive to every freedom-loving person on the planet. We presented the Senator’s representatives with petitions signed by hundreds of our fellow Americans all raising the same concerns and seeking the same assurances. I posed the following question as a hypothetical, inspired by a Liberal photographer I happen to know who told me she reserved the right to “refuse to take any job she didn’t want to take for any reason.” I looked the Regional Director in the eye and asked, “If I as a professional photographer who happens to have gay friends and family, would be happy to shoot a gay family’s portrait but politely refuse to shoot their same-sex marriage on the grounds of my religious beliefs, would the Senator have my back?” I asked this question after Regional Director Cody contradicted himself trying to explain the Senator’s position on Indiana’s Religious Freedom Law…Good Sunday Morning Dear Friend! 🙂

“The Protector”

This was about the time we learned from the Senator’s young aids that the name Schumer in Hebrew means…Protector. So, on April 16th (Holocaust Remembrance Day), 8 men and 4 women meet with the Senator’s Regional Director and Deputy Director who listen to their concerns, take their petitions and promise answers, assurances and a response from their Protector…answers, assurances and a response that, 17 days later, never came.

Meanwhile, if you’re a drugged-up malcontent THUG prone to violence, looting and vandalism, it appears that all three Branches of the Federal Government have got your back! I can’t say I wasn’t warned. My good friend Clay said we would be wasting our time for little more than the lip service we were treated to. But is standing up for what you believe ever a waste of time? Sheriff Clark told Bill O’Reilly flat-out, he would have refused to obey the Baltimore Mayor’s order to stand down if it were in the county of his jurisdiction…even if it were to cost him his job! Now that, ladies and gentlemen, is what we in Realville call a real Protector! And I would suggest to you that Sheriff Clark’s courage comes from his personal trust in the Ultimate Protector of us all!

My heart breaks for the multitude of my fellow citizens standing at the threshold of disappointment, lured to their greatest tragedy by false prophets and phony protectors. I will leave you, on this beautiful Tune-up Sunday, with the amazing story of the Klein Family. Find yourself in their story. Find your courage in their story. And most of all, find your one true Protector in their story…and may He continue to bless us always!

By the way, I’m sure very few of us are aware that our “Protectors” in the State Dept. have decided to abandon 700 Americans stranded in Yemen…wake up people. For God sakes, wake up!

We each have approximately 80 years in our earthly bodies ( hopefully ). Let’s make it count everyday. Start your week off trying to stand up for what you believe. Do you realize that your life makes a difference? That difference is either good or bad.

Yes, Chuck Schumer’s Office just gave us lip service. But, I slept well that night knowing that I had done the right thing by claiming an opportunity that I had to stand up for the multitudes of innocent and persecuted people and standing up against those who are plotting evil against Israel. How many of you have the peace of mind that you should? Why are scores of Americans taking anti-depressants and anti-anxiety medicines? It is because they are not living authentically. They feel insignificant. Society is becoming an ugly and uncaring place. People have no hope.

Remember the words of the great English poet and statesman, John Milton, who himself stood up for principles that many considered a lost cause four hundred years ago. ” Wheorof this whole discourse proposed will be a certain testimony, if not a trophy. For this is not the liberty which we can hope, that no grievance ever should arise in this Commonwealth- – that let no man in this world expect; but when complaints are freely heard, deeply considered and speedily reformed, then is the utmost bound of civil liberty attained that wise men look for.”

Well Said D…and thanks for that Milton quote. All muscle, spiritual as well as physical, tend to atrophy from inaction. The correlation between physical exercise and PTSD recovery speaks to this…we all need to get back in shape! 🙂

  3. Bill Banuchi says:

Thanks to all of you who met with Schumer’s staff. We must be a witness to truth, and trust God for the outcome. To be silent in the face of evil is,in itself evil–Bonhoffer

  4. D says:

    A big amen Pastor Bill!
